Throughout his time on the Lansing City Council, Jeremy Garza has taken a hands-on approach to the job. He’s gone on numerous ride-alongs and worked directly with our police officers, firefighters, code compliance officers and public services workers to help ensure Lansing residents are getting the services they deserve.

Along the way, he’s built strong relationships with our first responders and city service workers and has fought for them to get the resources they need to best serve our neighbors.

As our voice for working families on the City Council, Jeremy has:

  • Successfully advocated for key investments in public safety — including funding for speed radar trailers, additional officers and community policing, social workers to assist in high-stress calls, and life-saving equipment for our firefighters and paramedics.
  • Pushed for infrastructure improvements throughout our city. That includes millions of dollars in increased funding for sidewalk repair and street reconstruction — particularly in underserved areas.
  • Passed the city’s Responsible Contractor and Local Bidder Ordinance to ensure our city tax dollars stay in our community. This creates good-paying jobs for local workers and supports the small businesses that are the backbone of our local economy.
  • Provided key support for housing assistance, tenant legal support, small business growth, façade improvement programs and veteran services.
  • Led investments in youth development, apprenticeships and equity measures to ensure every Lansing resident has an opportunity to improve their quality of life. That includes working to develop and implement Lansing’s Career and Technical Education program, which helps give local high school students the training and skills they need to compete for the jobs of the 21st century.
  • Effectively advocated for modern equipment and traffic-calming strategies to make our neighborhoods safer for children, seniors and families.
  • Worked to increase staffing and provide equipment for the city’s forestry department to maintain our trees and preserve Lansing’s legacy as a “City of Trees.”
  • Worked directly with neighbors and city departments to revitalize numerous city parks, including Beck, Poxson and Waldo.
  • Successfully fought to keep the Capital Area District Library’s South Lansing location open, thriving and serving residents from all walks of life.
  • Passed a measure providing funding for a long-overdue feasibility study for a new community center.
